Billecart-Salmon Brut Cuvée Nicolas François, in a gift box, is the house's flagship prestige vintage, created in 1964 as a tribute to the man whose marriage started it all.

The cuvée blends Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and Grande Vallée de la Marne with Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, and part of the base wine ferments in traditional oak casks, adding weight and spice to an otherwise fine, mineral-driven Champagne. Released only in exceptional years, it matures on its lees for over a decade before disgorgement, rewarding drinkers with depth and ageing potential beyond most vintage Champagnes.

The grapes come from an estate farmed organically on over 100 hectares, with biodynamic methods applied to many parcels and chemical herbicides banned from vineyards under the house's direct control.

Named for founder Nicolas François Billecart, who established the house in 1818 with wife Elisabeth Salmon and her winemaking brother Louis, this cuvée carries forward two centuries of independent, family-led winemaking now guided by seventh-generation head Mathieu Roland-Billecart.

Tasting notes

Created in 1964 as a tribute to the House's founder, this prestige vintage cuvee blends Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallee de la Marne with Chardonnay from the Cote des Blancs, partly vinified in traditional oak casks. A beautiful golden hue introduces aromas of orchard fruit, honeyed biscuit and citrus, with a touch of spice from the barrel. Full-bodied and chiselled, the palate carries racy acidity and chalky minerality through to a long, penetrating finish.
