Niepoort Colheita, in its own gift box, is a single-harvest tawny Port from one of Portugal's last family-owned Port houses.

After fortification, the wine rests for years, often decades, in old wooden casks in Niepoort's cool Vila Nova de Gaia cellars, slowly taking on notes of dried fruit, nuts and caramel, with each cask topped up using wine from the very same harvest to offset natural evaporation.

Niepoort now farms its Douro vineyards organically, with biodynamic principles guiding much of the estate's viticulture.

The house was founded in 1842 when the Niepoort family arrived from Holland, and the Nogueira family has served as its master blenders ever since, a partnership now in its fifth generation under Dirk Niepoort.

Sustainability

Since 2010, Niepoort has been transitioning its Douro estate vineyards to organic farming, reintroducing traditional mixed-variety field blends and eliminating synthetic pesticides to preserve the biodiversity of the Douro Valley's deeply terraced UNESCO-listed schist slopes.

Tasting notes

Amber-tawny with complex aromas of roasted almonds, dried apricot, orange marmalade, caramel, and subtle oak spice — hallmarks of extended oxidative wood ageing. Silky and concentrated on the palate, with raisins, dried fig, toasted hazelnuts, and toffee balanced by a thread of freshening acidity. Long, nutty, and gently warming finish.

Serving temperature

Serve at 14-16 °C

Food pairings

Crème brûlée, dark chocolate tart, aged blue cheese, walnut and honey cake; Asian pairings: Chinese walnut cookies, red bean mochi, nian gao sticky rice cake, Japanese hojicha panna cotta
