Quinta do Vale Meão Vintage Port, in its own gift box, comes from the estate that once supplied the grapes behind Barca Velha, Portugal's first internationally celebrated dry red wine.

Grapes are foot-trodden in traditional granite lagares before fermentation and fortification, and the finished Port matures in the estate's historic Adega da Barca Velha, developed to concentrate the fruit and structure this Douro Superior terroir is known for.

The vineyard sits on the Vilariça Fault, giving it granite, schist and alluvial soils farmed with a deep respect for the site's natural variation.

Founded in 1877 by the legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the estate remains in the hands of her descendants, now led by great-great-grandson Francisco "Xito" Olazabal, who has helped drive the modern Douro's rise on the world stage.

Wine details

20% ABV - 750 ml - Porto DOC

Sustainability

Quinta do Vale Meão is situated high in the remote Douro Superior where extreme natural conditions and traditional dry-farming terraces have always made intensive farming impractical — the estate relies on traditional methods with no irrigation, maintaining the natural balance of this ancient landscape.

Tasting notes

Inky purple-ruby with extraordinary concentration. Aromas of blackberry, wild cherry, violet, dark chocolate, and dramatic schist minerality from the Douro Superior. Powerfully built with dense opulent fruit, fully integrated spirit, and fine grippy tannins signalling decades of cellaring potential. Exceptionally long and complex finish.

Serving temperature

Serve at 16-18 °C

Food pairings

Rich dark chocolate, Stilton cheese, roasted walnuts, Christmas pudding; Asian pairings: salted egg yolk mooncake, Chinese nougat confections, black sesame glutinous rice balls, Japanese red bean dorayaki
