Recanati Reserve Wild Carignan, in its own gift box, comes from dry-farmed, head-trained old vines discovered by chance on the slopes of Israel's Judean Hills.

With no irrigation, the vines' roots dig deep into the mineral subsoil in constant search of water, giving the grapes an intensity that Recanati captures through minimal filtration, preserving the wine's rich, herbal, spice-driven character.

Recanati makes this wine using vegan-friendly methods, avoiding animal-derived fining agents throughout production.

This discovery helped spark what's been called Israel's Mediterranean wine revolution, championed since 2000 by founders Lenny Recanati and Uri Shaked, who set out to prove Israeli wine could stand with the world's best.

Sustainability

Recanati's Wild Carignan comes exclusively from ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines never treated with synthetic herbicides or pesticides — their advanced age and deep root systems provide natural drought resistance and disease resilience, making these among the most naturally farmed plots in Israel.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby with a garnet rim hinting at vine age. Earthy aromas of wild herbs, dried dark cherry, smoked meat, and Mediterranean garrigue reflect the character of ancient ungrafted vines. Old vine concentration delivers ripe dark fruit, warming spice, bright acidity, and firm but well-integrated tannins. Long, earthy, and satisfying.

Serving temperature

Serve at 16-18 °C

Spiced lamb chops, Mediterranean mezze, smoky roasted aubergine, slow-cooked lentil stew; Asian pairings: Lebanese-style spiced lamb meatballs, Korean BBQ lamb, Sichuan-spiced braised beef, Japanese lamb sukiyaki
